You don’t need to tear out your cabinets or redesign your entire kitchen to create a space that feels brand new. In one of her DIY projects, Liz Rishel of Within the Grove refreshed her small kitchen by keeping the existing layout and updating the cabinet doors, backsplash, paint, and hardware.
Keep the Layout You Have

One of the biggest takeaways from Liz’s project is that a kitchen makeover doesn’t have to start with demolition.By working with the layout she already had, Liz focused her budget on updates that made the biggest visual impact.
Upgrade the Cabinet Doors
The cabinet doors were the inspiration behind the entire makeover.
Liz chose Front + Center’s custom Shaker cabinet doors in unfinished MDF so she could paint them the exact shade of green she envisioned for the space.

As Liz shared, “This is honestly what inspired the whole kitchen makeover.”
The doors arrived ready for installation with pre-bored hinge holes and soft-close hinges, making it easy to give the existing cabinets an updated, custom look.
Add the Finishing Touches
After installing the new cabinet doors, Liz finished the space with a new backsplash, updated hardware, and a few final details that brought the design together.
Like any DIY project, there were a few unexpected challenges along the way. But by sticking with her original vision, she created a kitchen that feels fresh and updated—without changing the footprint.
The Finished Result

By updating the cabinet doors and layering in a few simple design changes, Liz gave her kitchen a fresh new look without the cost of a full remodel.
If you’re dreaming of a kitchen makeover, start with the features that make the biggest visual impact. Updating your cabinet doors is a simple way to give your kitchen a custom look without replacing your cabinet boxes or taking on a full renovation.
